I’m so sorry I lost contact with Richard a few years ago. He was an extraordinary designer and craftsman. His small home in Ruskin was simply amazing! The whole home centered on a Koi pond, all views centered into(!) the house. His drawings were beautiful, always with pencil, he simply said the computer was too slow. His major focus was his furniture; beautiful wood veneers on hardwood frames. Visiting his shop was always a delight; to see an edition of dining room chairs in progress, with a model on a table, made of scrap wood, as a guide. His collection of exotic veneers was huge and beautiful…Japanese Butterfly Maple, curly oak…etc., etc! They were stored on huge metal drawers, and belonged in a museum.
And what a generous person he was! I showed him some panels I was making for paintings, and he proceeded to make me a dozen, on the spot in his shop. I went to take them and he said no…there were a few edges 1/32d” too long!! I had to pick them up the next day when they met his standards! I was so sorry when. he closed his shop here in Ruskin; the community lost a genius. I still have a three piece screen he made, which I painted with a grove of bamboo, for a furniture show at the Moren Art Center, St. Pete. It would be wonderful if an exhibition of his work could be made; his architectural drawings, and pieces of his furniture would be wonderful!

Richard was a very friendly, nice person. I enjoyed getting together to have lunch with him and Rosemary from time to time. He was easy to have a conversation with. His architecture and furniture creations are amazing. It has been a loss and I pray his memory lives on to comfort those who knew him and held him dear and those that discover his work in the future.

In my opinion, it must be a rarity for one designer and artist to have such a vast portfolio of exceptional work. It is truly fascinating to see these photos of Richard’s beautiful pieces of furniture as well as his other projects. I hope this website will inspire others, including young talents. The stories and collections will surely show new generations of designers and craftsmen that it takes not only creativity and genuine skills, but also passion, to truly succeed.

Richard loved to talk about his creations and share his knowledge (lucky for us or our house addition would look very differently!). He also had great stories from all stages of his life. He was a very thoughtful and kind man.

One of my all time favorite people. I met Richard around 2009 at an event at the then Florida Craftsman gallery in St Pete. We immediately hit it off with our shared love for classic, modern design. We went on to collaborate on a number of projects where his eye for style always shone through. Work aside, we became good friends. Was not unusual to have an hour long conversation mixed with thoughts on life, design, and certainly a breakdown of that week’s Nascar race. When I needed a hand with designing my house he jumped in fully enthused and without hesitation. He never made me feel like I was putting him out, so rare. I’m too lucky that our paths in life had crossed. His passing is deeply felt, but thoughts of our shared time always puts a smile on my face. I will see you on the other side my friend.

Richard was like a father to me. He taught me sooo many things when I was young and then when I got old… he still continued to teach. He took me under his wing and believed in me like no one else had. I had no idea back then that he would be solely responsible for my achievements as a custom cabinet maker and finisher. I wish I had 10% of his multitude of talent! He had so many titles and was amazing at all! I miss him every day and also think it would be amazing to put together an exhibition of his works. The attached image is one of my favorite trays that Richard designed and we created with his approval.
